Paris, 17 May 2017 – Beth Appleton, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing, Warner Music Group (WMG), Simon Robson, President, Warner Music Asia, and Jonas Siljemark, President, Warner Music Nordics will deliver a keynote, Breaking China: How a European Pop Star Made it in Asia, at Midem 2017. They will be joined on stage by multi-platinum-selling Danish pop star Christopher and his manager Thomas Børresen. The event is scheduled for Wednesday 7 June 2017 from 5:30-6:00pm as part of the Midem Keynote Series.
Christopher is a prime example of WMG’s philosophy that success can come from anywhere and translate everywhere. Hear Christopher and the WMG team tell the story of how he went from local superstar in Denmark to topping the charts in China. Appleton, Robson and Siljemark will then explain WMG’s unique approach to developing global careers for artists in a world where music is borderless.
As one of the most popular male pop artists, 25-year-old Christopher has 510,000 followers on Instagram, more than 150 million Spotify streams to his name, album sales equivalent to 1.35 million, and numerous #1 chart positions in Denmark and China. With his 3rd album release and the new single “Naked,” he brings his fans “Closer.”
Beth Appleton has been in her current role since January 2014. She oversees WMG’s global marketing campaigns for such priority acts as Bruno Mars, Charlie Puth, Coldplay, David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Galantis, Jason Derulo, Josh Groban, Major Lazer, Michael Bublé, Pablo Alborán, Robin Schulz and Twenty One Pilots. Appleton has developed systems that enable WMG to quickly identify and push priority songs in multiple countries, while the creative campaigns she drives define global digital marketing.
Robson joined WMG in 1998 and has served as President of Warner Music Asia since January 2015. Based in Hong Kong, he oversees WMG’s operations across a wide range of territories, including Japan, the world’s second largest music market, and China, the world’s most exciting emerging market for music.
Jonas Siljemark has led Warner Music Nordics since February 2003. He oversees WMG’s operations across the Nordic region, including Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The region has led the world in the development of premium subscription services, with record companies transforming their business models to drive this new approach to engaging fans with music.
“I’m very excited to welcome such a stellar line-up of Warner executives, following last year’s memorable keynote with Stu Bergen, Inigo Zabala and Anitta. It is very fitting to celebrate Christopher’s international development, since this kind of success is at the very heart of Midem’s vision. China is on everyone’s mind as the market opens up to international business, so this keynote is perfect to understand how to break into that territory,” said Alexandre Deniot, Director of Midem.
Midem, the world’s leading music industry trade event, takes place in Cannes, France, from 6-9 June 2017.
