Paris, 3 May 2018 – Midemlab, the international competition for music-related startups, today announces the 20 finalists hoping to shape the industry in the years ahead.

Presented by Deezer, Midemlab is part of Midem 2018, the music industry tradeshow, which takes place in Cannes, France from 5-8 June.

Midemlab is the leading launchpad for innovative startups in the entertainment sector, and aims to put the spotlight on new digital solutions that offer fresh opportunities to stakeholders in the music sphere. Previous participants have raised millions of dollars in funding thanks to their Midemlab appearances, and many are now well-established in the music ecosystem.

Finalists have the chance to pitch their company to an audience of decision-makers, international media, and potential investors. All Midemlab finalists will benefit from personalised coaching by Abbey Road Red to prepare their pitch. The four winners, nominated by a jury after the pitches, will also have private meetings with Deezer’s CEO, Hans-Holger Albrecht, with Kima Ventures, the world’s most active business angel, Techstars Music, a startup accelerator run by Techstars and leading companies from the global music business such as Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and Concord Music. Finalists will receive free legal advice from Jeff Liebenson of Liebenson Law, and free publicity advice from PR strategist Joanna Kirk.

This year, a record 234 submissions were received from 42 countries, up 68% on last year, underlining the dynamism of entrepreneurship in the music sector. Almost half the submissions came from startups founded in 2017 or 2018. The 20 finalists have been selected by Midemlab’s partners Kima Ventures, Music Ally, and bluenove, and between them, cover the full spectrum of music innovation. One winner will be chosen by the jury in each of four categories.

Listen! (France) – The app for personalised and global musical curation
Louise (France) – Music sharing application live with your friends

Asaii (USA) – Uses machine-learning software to identify what the next big hits will be in the music industry
Gigz (France) – The personalised recommendation of all your geolocated and real-time cultural outings

Seated (USA) – Empowers artists to take control of their ticketing experience
