Paris, 17 May 2018 – Midem and American media company Mass Appeal have teamed up to present the International Premiere Screening of hip-hop documentary “Word Is Bond”, as part of Midem’s enhanced focus on film/TV music.
The home of the global music community, Midem takes place in Cannes, France, from 5-8 June. The International Premiere Screening of “Word Is Bond” is scheduled for Tuesday 5 June.
“Word Is Bond” is a documentary by Sacha Jenkins that examines the transformative power of lyrics in the world of hip-hop music. What was born on the streets of the South Bronx has now taken root globally, and the young poets of New York have helped to spawn regional dialects everywhere. Through dynamic archival footage, in-depth interviews and on-the-ground excursions with artists like Nas, Tech9, J Cole, Rapsody, and Anderson .Paak, the film explores the many dimensions that hip-hop poetics occupy.

Midem is introducing a brand-new conference track on Film/TV music, to allow everyone involved in the business to understand where the opportunities are for stakeholders. Speakers from companies like Lionsgate, Europacorp, BMG, and Concord Music, alongside high-profile Film/TV composers like Evgueni Galperine (“Malavita”, “Loveless”), John Lunn (“Downton Abbey”, “The Last Kingdom”), and Tom Hodge (“McMafia”) will participate in exclusive panels and case studies on the afternoon of Tuesday 5 June. Film/TV programmes from networks like Showtime (“Word Is Bond”), Netflix (“The Last Kingdom”), and Amazon Prime (“McMafia”) will be highlighted during this major new focus at Midem.
