Paris, November 14 2019 – Midem, the home of the global music community will open with an exclusive keynote conversation devoted to artist and label services, led by Fred Davis, Partner, The Raine Group, alongside Downtown’s CEO Justin Kalifowitz and SoundCloud’s CEO Kerry Trainor. Midem takes place 2-5 June 2020, Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
The unique keynote discussion on 2 June will underline the role and development of the future of Artist & Label Services. Reflecting a strong focus on the topic at Midem 2020, the conversation will dive deep into this essential element of the music ecosystem, helping artists release, promote and monetise their music around the world. The eminent speakers will look at the rise of ‘direct artist’ services companies, and a whole host of other commercial models, allowing unsigned artists to have more choice and flexibility than ever before, offering them the opportunity to create their own virtual record label.
Speaker Fred Davis claims that this focus is an essential discussion point. “With DIY and independent artists representing the fastest growing segment of the industry in terms of revenues, growing 35/40% year-on-year, the music industry is facing a new turning point. There is an exciting opportunity to further empower these artists and rightsholders and allow the entire industry to generate significantly more revenues. In this context, metadata is more than ever a critical issue we need to unify around. Midem is uniquely positioned to host such an important conversation as it welcomes all its stakeholders.”
With this in mind, Midem Director, Alexandre Deniot, is passionate about launching the Midem Artist and Label Services Forum – the first global platform for artist and label services at Midem 2020. He is also excited for the first announcement of the 2020 edition to be this keynote discussion, thus strengthening Midem’s commitment to put artists at the heart of the event, saying, “We’re delighted to host this amazing line-up of keynote speakers, which resonates with our artist-centric strategy and highlights the main evolutions currently reshaping our industry. By creating the first ever Artist & Label Services Forum at Midem, we aim to further serve the global music community and provide concrete solutions for new artists, entrepreneurs and the industry´s needs. The Forum will unite existing services for artists & labels across production, marketing, sales & promotion, rights management and more. Combined these elements can help boost artists’ careers and provide solutions for labels to support their artists around the world.”
