Paris, January 19 2021 – Midem, the home of the global music community, today opens the call for entry for the 14th edition of Midemlab, the leading music tech startup competition.
Entries are now open for the 14th edition of the Midemlab competition, this year presented by Sacem. The competition will feature the most promising and exciting international music-related startups, whose ground-breaking solutions offer fresh opportunities to the music landscape. Selected finalists will present to a panel of global experts during Midem’s 55th anniversary event in Cannes.
This year, the “Live Music Experiences” category will provide a special focus on Livestream and VR startups, whose solutions help the live sector, currently facing particularly tough circumstances due to the global pandemic. Midem Director, Alexandre Deniot, explains, “The pandemic has put the music industry in an extremely challenging situation, especially the live sector, which hasn’t been running for almost a year now. So it’s even more important to run the Midemlab competition this year to seek out the freshest and most effective innovations to help every sector of our industry find solutions and offer new models to the music community, both the professionals and the fans.”
Music industry revenues overall are predicted to have declined by as much as 34% in 2020 according to MIDIA Research. A large part of the negative impact of this most recent crisis to hit the music ecosystem will be felt by the live sector, currently undergoing rapid digitalisation. Startups have a major role to play here in offering artists, live industry execs, fans and brands, new business and services solutions.
The team at official Midemlab partner, Sacem, are very excited to be part of the programme. Mickael Honorine, Head of Innovation at Sacem says, “At Sacem Innovation, we explore and leverage new technologies. We work every day with the Music Tech ecosystem and we are very proud to partner with Midemlab 2021 to discover the next best-in-class startups.”
