Paris, 3 June 2015 – Midem, the leading business event for the music ecosystem, is opening its doors to the general public through a live music festival and an innovation discovery zone.
Organised by Reed MIDEM, the Midem tradeshow takes place in Cannes, France, from 5-8 June, 2015.
The Midem Festival will offer a unique opportunity for fans to discover international talent. The festival encompasses the brand-new Midem Artist Accelerator programme, organised in partnership with Pepsi and Deezer, featuring 14 finalists – all of them up-and-coming artists – that have been chosen by a prestigious Artistic Committee made up of key players of the music ecosystem, including Antonio L.A Reid (CEO, Epic Record), Will Botwin (President, Red Light Management) and Mathieu Jaton (CEO, Montreux Jazz Festival).
The 14 finalists will be performing daily during Midem on the open-air stage at the Pantiero Esplanade, giving the audience a glimpse of tomorrow’s most promising talent. Visitors will discover an exciting line-up including Germany’s Hundreds, Alfred Hall from Norway, Alo Wala and Brynjolfur from Denmark, Roo Panes, Ghetts, Andreya Triana and Little Barrie from the UK, Jerry Léonide from Mauritius, Timothy Bloom and Akua Naru from the US, Le Galaxie from Ireland, and Hungary’s Middlemist Red.
The Midem Festival will also host Country Showcases, which this year focus on Asian countries including China, Korea and Taiwan, with a series of free concerts at the Ambassadeur Lounge of the Palais des Festivals. Country Showcase artists have a big following on their home turf, and for some, this will be the first opportunity to play in front of a European audience.
The programme includes China Night, a line-up of ethno-jazz, folk and rock sponsored by China’s hottest headphone brand 1MORE featuring one of the most admired underground rock bands from China Carsick Cars, songwriter Xiaotian Wang and erhu player Guo Gan; the K-Pop Night Out, featuring performances by the retro Korean trio the Barberettes, fusion music by Coreyah and indie rock combos Loro’s and Rock N Roll Radio; and Taiwan Beats, with the first female rapper winner of Golden Melody Awards Miss Ko, the Taiwanese electronic dance rock Magic Power, and the duo My Skin Against Your Skin.
With Armenia as the 2015 Midem Country of Honour, there is also a specially selected line-up entitled Armenian Elements of Music, organised by ProArt and sponsored by Tashir. This will include an intimate performance by the Hover State Chamber Choir, and a prestigious concert by the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia conducted by Sergey Smbatyan in the Palais des Festivals’ Debussy Auditorium, featuring cello soloist Narek Hakhnazaryan. The Armenia State Jazz Orchestra will also be performing in the Carlton Hotel.
The techno ‘pope’ Juan Atkins will also perform an exclusive DJ Set at Les Marches Club on Sunday 7 June.
This year, the Palais des Festivals will also host a new Midem Discovery Zone, where the public can encounter creators, brands and selected startups and discover their innovatory projects that promise to shape the music experience of tomorrow.
Among exhibiting companies, French telco Orange will be hosting a “connected space” to showcase its network capabilities; car manufacturer Mazda will be offering test drives of its new SUV, the CX-3, equipped with MZD Connect, its connected service; The Mo’Joes will organise DJ battles thanks to its Mash Machine high-tech “musical table”; British company Lasgo Chrysalis will be offering the latest vinyl products for sale; Lucie Labs will be demoing its connected bracelet allowing users to interact during concerts and events; students from Berklee College of Music will be displaying their fresh musical apps and a range of fun interactive projects; and French streaming site Findspire will show what it can do to bring music to the masses.
